Amazon's Grocery Adventure
Amazon dove in headfirst into the grocery business, spending a LOT of money to get several operations up and running.
Now, 15 years later, some are thinking perhaps they have spent too much money.
Financial Analysts say the company had been running a incoherent strategy, with several moving parts not working together. First there was Prime NOW grocery service, then Amazon Fresh, Followed by the purchase of Whole Foods and the building of Amazon Go convenience stores and brick and mortar Amazon Fresh Locations.
When the dust settled, Amazon only controlled a little more than 2% of the $750 billion U.S. grocery market, far behind leader Walmart which stands at 18% of the market.
It’s grocery delivery service, is up against an ever-growing competition field including; Uber Eats, DoorDash and Instacart.
Experts say look for Amazon needs to pare down its grocery line or get out of the business completely.
