Birmingham Congresswoman marks 16th Street Baptist Church bombing anniversary
Alabama Congresswoman Terri Sewell says that in seeking justice and equality for all, every gain in the battle for civil rights had been paid for by those with a vision and a dream bigger than themselves, that in order to see results to continue to fight and further their legacy every day, that it was never lost that she gets to walk the halls of Congress because of four little black girls lost their lives, inspiring that her presence was on account of the sacrifice of others, honored that her first bill was to award a Congressional Gold medal to the four dead in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing posthumously, crediting those who preserve the memory of the church in that incident, calling for observance of the 55th anniversary of the bombing and to honor the lives and legacies of Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carol Robertson and Cynthia Morris Wesley, whose deaths had a lasting impact on the pursuit of a more perfect union.
