ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN - NOVEMBER 17: About 10 thousand students gathered in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan on Wednesday (Nov. 17) to demand improvement in education. The demonstration, organized by the student wing of the Jamaat-i Islamic Party, Islamic Society of Talebe (IJT), was held at the entrance of the red zone, where the parliament building, ministries, and embassies are located. Protesters carried banners demanding "lower tuition fees" and "justice in education". In his speech here, the leader of the Jamaat-i Islami Party, Sirajul Haq, called on students who could not receive an education due to their economic situation to raise their voices. Haq emphasized that taxes on education should be canceled and he drew attention to the increasing gap between the rich and the poor. IJT President Hamza Mohammad Siddiqi stated that the budget allocated to education is insufficient and that the budget of schools run by the army has increased by 26 percent. He also said that they demand the construction of educational facilities for students, the increase in the budget allocated to education, and the reduction of education fees.
