GIRONA, SPAIN (JUNE 3, 2024Catalan and French farmers have once again taken to the streets in protest, this time ahead of the upcoming European elections. Organized by Revolta Pagesa, the 24-hour demonstration has caused disruptions at major border crossings with France since early Monday morning. The main routes affected by the protest include the AP-7 at La Jonquera, the C-38 at the Coll de Ares (Ripolles), the N-152 at Puigcerda, the N-145 at La Seu d'Urgell, and the N-230 at Bossost (Val d'Aran). The move comes just four months after major protests in February, which saw roads blocked for several days. Despite being the majority representative for farmers in Catalonia, Unio de Pagesos has chosen not to support this particular protest, citing concerns over its timing during the European election campaign. For now, the farmers remain steadfast in their efforts to make their voices heard and send a clear message to those in power. Elections for the European Parliament will take place 6-9 June 2024.
