PACINIAN CORPUSCLE---A PRESSURE SENSORY RECEPTOR that is STIMULATED by HEAVY PRESSURE, 25X. These pressure sensory receptors are found in deeper subcutaneous tissues including the subcutaneous layers of the skin. The layered nature reminds one or an onion. In the core a sensory nerve fiber (a dendrite) is evident--it leaves the corpuscle sending sensory (afferent) nerve impulses to the central nervous system when the receptor is stimulated by heavy pressure or they may also be involved in detection of vibrations.
