SMOOTH MUSCLE CELLS (or FIBERS)---NONSTRIATED, INVOLUNTARY MUSCLE, 250X - stock photo
SMOOTH MUSCLE CELLS (or FIBERS)---NONSTRIATED, INVOLUNTARY MUSCLE, 250X. These cells are tapered at both ends with a flattened nucleus. This image shows many individual cells. In many images of smooth muscle the cells are tightly compacted not showing individual cells e.g. smooth muscle layer in the intestine. This smooth muscle is from the trachea (windpipe) and is part of the Trachealis Muscle--smooth muscle that connects the ends of the C-shaped cartilages at the posterior border of the trachea.
