In many images of smooth muscle the cells are tightly compacted not showing individual cells e.g. smooth muscle layer in the intestine. This smooth muscle is from the trachea (windpipe) and is part of the Trachealis Muscle--smooth muscle that connects the ends of the C-shaped cartilages at the posterior border of the trachea.
