Rainbow Boa - stock photo

This beautiful orange Rainbow Boa (Epicrates cenchria) is from a remote research camp in eastern Ecuador. Like most boas, Rainbow Boas have live birth (they do not lay eggs). Rainbow Boas are predators of endothermic prey - mammals and birds. Sensory heat pits are located along the upper side of the jaw and allow a Rainbow Boa to sense differences in heat and ultimately locate prey.
