Medieval Stone Bridge at Regensburg, Germany - stock photo

The oldest preserved bridge in Germany, the Stone Bridge (Steinerne Brücke) in Regensburg, Bavaria, is a 12th-century bridge across the Danube linking the Old Town with Stadtamhof. Its construction began in 1135 (completed in 1146) and was used by Christian knights on their way to the Second Crusade. For more than 800 years, until the 1930s, it remained the city's only bridge across the river. It is a masterwork of medieval construction and an emblem of the city.
