CILIATED EPITHELIUM lining the TRACHEA---PSEUDOSTRATIFIED CILIATED COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM, 250X. The Cilia and two Goblet Cells with mucus are very evident. The nuclei of many cells are in the image--all of the cells touch the basement membrane and therefore this tissue looks like a stratified epithelium but it is not--this is indicated by the prefix pseudo. The action of the cilia moves particulates and harmful substances away from the lungs.
