SPERMATOGENESIS (SPERM PRODUCTION and DEVELOPMENT), SEMINIFEROUS TUBULE, TESTIS, Human, 250X. This image shows the wall of the seminiferous tubule (most of image) and the lumen above. Many Spermatogenic Cells with chromosomes are visible--these are the cells which give rise to sperm cells (spermatozoa), including cell division by Meiosis. The Spermatogenic Cells includes Spermatogonia, Primary Spermatocytes, Secondary Spermatocytes, and Spermatids. Several Spermatozoa with dark heads (mostly the nucleus) and some tails (or flagellae) are shown--including two, each with a very prominent tail or flagellum extending toward the lumen. The Basement Membrane that encircles the Seminiferous Tuble is also evident.
