Basalt Columns, Isle of Staffa, Argyll. Staffa is an unspoilt and uninhabited island best known for its magnificent basalt columns and spectacular sea caves. The most famous of these is Fingals Cave, also known as An Uamh Binn (Cave of Melody). It has a cathedral-like structure and its hexagonal columns are of the same composition to those of the Giants Causeway in Ireland. It is an uninhabited island, and as such has no admission charges.
