Taste Buds are embedded in Stratified Squamous Epithelium which covers the tongue and lines the oral cavity. The opening of the taste bud is the Taste Pore (seen on the two lower taste buds). Sensory neurons are associated with the taste buds carrying sensory (afferent) nerve impulses to the central nervous system.
