All connective tissues are derived from mesenchyme--this includes: blood cells, blood vessels, the heart and lymphatic system. Besides cells, mesenchyme is composed of gelatinous ground substance matrix (the clear spaces in the image). Mesenchyme cells can readily migrate unlike epithelial cells.
