Children Playing in Shantytown Street
Youngsters play amid shacks of Sophiatown, the section of Johannesburg which is being forcibly evacuated under South Africa's segregation policy. This part of the area, however, will not be evacuated, although it is the worst section, because it is not near a white residential area. This area is undrained and unwatered. Other sections of Sophiatown nearer white areas will be cleared of the 60,000 inhabitants, who will be moved to a development some miles from Johannesburg.
