(Original Caption) Winning the 500 mile Auto Classic. Indianapolis, Ind.: Bill Vukovich, Fresno, California, in car number 14, crosses the finish line to win the 500-mile Memorial Day Speedway Race today. The car, a fuel injection special, was timed with an average speed of 128.740 miles per hour-just a little short of the record mark of 128.922, set by last year's winner, Troy Ruttman. Vukovich in winning, picked up $29, 700 in lap money.
