Zambian Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo atte
Washington, UNITED STATES: Zambian Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo attends a press conference at the Imani Temple in Washington 27 September 2006. Milingo, 76, who stunned the Roman Catholic Church in 2001 by getting married in a mass "Moony" ceremony, has been excommunicated for ordaining four married men as bishops, the Vatican said 26 September. Milingo, was archbishop of Lusaka from 1969 until 1983, when the Vatican asked him to resign because he refused to stop using rituals that were judged to be inconsistent with Catholic teaching. On left is Patrick Trujillo of Newark, New Jersey, one of the four ordained as bishop by Milingo. (Photo credit should read NICHOLAS KAMM/AFP via Getty Images)
