Washington, UNITED STATES: This 18 December 2006 photo shows a bandage on the right leg of US First Lady Laura Bush as she walks into the Bookseller?s Area of the White House for a Hanukkah reception in Washington, DC. First Lady Bush has had a cancerous tumor removed from the skin on her leg, her office said 19 December 2006. Shortly before November's legislative elections, Bush noticed "a little sore on her leg that wouldn't heal. She had it checked out. It was revealed to be a squamous cell carcinoma," her spokeswoman Susan Whitson said. Whitson said Bush had a small growth removed from her shin shortly after the 07 November vote. "Because of Mrs. Bush's early detection and treatment the area on her leg is healing," Whitson said. "She's continually had it checked, the check ups are good. Everything seems to be fine." The White House was asked about Bush's health after a public event Monday and confirmed the cancer treatment. AFP PHOTO/Mandel NGAN (Photo credit should read MANDEL NGAN/AFP via Getty Images)
