(Original Caption) 8/3/1957-Washington, DC- Senator Barry Goldwater (L), of Arizona, confers with the Senate Rackets Committee Counsel, Robert Kennedy (center), and Senator Irving Ives of New York, during the probe of New York's labor sutuation. Goldwater declared that new laws are needed to fight such groups as "this Hoffa-dominated labor racket clique responsible for racketeer Johnny Dio." The Senator's reference was to James R. Hoffa, Vice President of the Teamsters' Union, who has been accused by investigators of having ties with Dio and other racketeers in a move to gain a "stranglehold" on key unions throughout the Eastern Seaboard.
