Dr. William Beebe on Barge with Crew

(Original Caption) A view from the deck of their barge as Dr. William Beebe, famous American scientist, and Otis Barton, sealed on their two-ton Bathysphere, were swung over the side for their half-mile dive into the waters off Nonsuch Island here, recently. Barton and Beebe, in their diving bell, reached a depth of 3,028 feet yesterday, August 15th, a new record. At that depth, with water pressure registering 19 tons on their bell-windows, the men made scientific observations and motion pictures (r).
