PORT-LOUIS, MAURITIUS: Tourists admire giant water lillies in the famed bi-centennial 'Jardin de Pamplemousse' gardens in Mauritius, in this 18 March 2005 picture. Tucked away on the northern tip of Mauritius lies a botanical treasure that is luring tourists away from the famed sun-drenched beaches of the Indian Ocean island. The garden on the French-speaking isle, also known as 'grapefuit garden', was created by an 18th-century missionary sent to the island by King Louis XV in 1767. Sprawled over 25 hectares (62 acres), the garden is home to some 800 plant species, including 80 species of palm trees from the Americas, Asia and Africa, that draw 80 percent of the 700,000 tourists who flock to the island each year.
