(Original Caption) Jackson, Mississippi: To Return To Ole Miss James H Meredith (left) reads prepared statement at news conference January 30, saying he has decided to return to the University of Mississippi for the spring semester. Meredith, 29, who was greeted by rioting last fall when he became the first Negro to enter the University, said he sees signs that give him hope he will "be able to go to school in the future under adequate if not ideal, conditions." At right is Medgar Evers, Mississippi NAACP President.
