Bomb Damage In Freiburg
The spire of the Freiburg Minster among the ruins of Freiburg im Breisgau (now in the state of Baden-Württemberg), Germany, after World War II, circa 1946. The city was heavily bombed in the war, notably in May 1940, when it was bombed in error by three Luftwaffe aircraft, killing 57, and in November 1944, when it was carpet-bombed by the Royal Air Force in a raid codenamed Operation Tigerfish. The Minster escaped serious damage. (Photo by Three Lions/Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
