The Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant
(Original Caption) The Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station was 77 percent completed as of February 28, 1982. Unit One, on the right, is scheduled for commercial operation in May 1983. Units Two and Three are scheduled to come on line in 1984 and 1986, respectively. The facility, located 55 miles west of downtown Phoenix, is being built by Arizona Public Service Co. for itself and other western utilities. APS owns 29.1 percent of the plant, and during 1982 will spend an estimated $161 million for its share of the project's construction expenses. The total cost of the Palo Verde project is projected to be $4.29 billion.
