Woodson, known as the founder of black history month at 1538 9th Street NW.The author and historian lived at the three-story rowhouse from 1915 until his death in April 1950 and is famous for his 1933 book, The Mis-Education of the Negro.The house became National Historic Landmark in 1976 and was placed on the National Trust for Historic Preservations list of endangered properties in 2001.
