Sandford entered his plea during a five-minute hearing before Judge John Crocker and was remanded on unconditional bail to appear for trial on April 25. Pinsent won gold with Steve Redgrave, Tim Foster and James Cracknell in the coxless fours event at Sydney last year. 27/4/01: Sandford, accused of stealing rower Matthew Pinsent's Olympic gold medal, was due to stand trial. 25/5/2001: Sandford was facing a possible jail sentence Friday May 25, 2001, for trying to steal a briefcase containing Olympic hero Matthew Pinsent's gold medal. Terry Sandford grabbed the rower's leather case after seeing it lying on a car roof at Heathrow Airport. Mr Pinsent, 30, had left it there by mistake while meeting his Canadian girlfriend from a flight from Toronto.
