SPEED SKATING
U.S. skater Bonnie Blair won the 500m, the second women's speed skating event, at the Lillehammer Winter Olympic Games, 19 February 1994, in Hamar, Norway. The American achieved an unprecedented feat by winning the gold medal in the event at three consecutive Olympic Games: Calgary in 1988, Albertville in 1992, and Lillehammer in 1994. In Albertville, Blair also won the 1000m. With this fourth gold medal, she became the most decorated American athlete across both the Summer and Winter Games, alongside sprinter Evelyn Ashford, swimmer Janet Evans, and diver Pat McCormick.
