Aitken consulting their map.Newcastle's fledgling District Anti-Theft Squad is to be expanded as a result of its outstanding crime clear-up rate.The squad was formed 10 months ago to counter Newcastle's alarmingly high incidence of stealing offences.Since then members of the squad have arrested 330 offenders.This has led to a staggering 1,000 charges being preferred for a wide variety of crimes.Head of the eight-man squad, Sgt Stan Gossett, said he expected two extra members would be added to the team before Christmas.
