(Original Caption) Santa Barbara, California: First picture of damage to famous Santa Barbara mission. Both towers of Santa Barbara mission were badly wrecked by earthquake. The above scene shown the mass of debris upon the steps which in falling narrowly missed several worshippers as they left the building following the trembler. In the right tower can be seen one of the bells still clinging to the position it has held since the historic mission was built in 1786, until this disaster. This was the best preserved of all California missions.
