Raymond Briggs, English author and illustrator, circa November 2004. Briggs is a popular writer and illustrator of childrens books. His best known work is The Snowman, which was adapted into an animated television special in 1982 and continues to be shown on British television at Christmas. Other of Briggss notable works include Father Christmas (1973) and Ethel and Ernest (1998).
