A Rainbow Lorikeet drinks nectar from the flower of a Banksia Ashbyi shrub in a Perth suburb, 16 June 2005. The Rainbow Lorikeet is widely distributed along Australia's east coast, the southwest Pacific islands, Papua-New Guinea and Indonesia, with an increasing population around Perth in Western Australia thought to be derived from escaped aviary birds and has a preferred habitat of coastal forests and urban gardens. The Banksia Ashbyi (Ashby's banksia) is a native to Western Australia's coastal sandy soils, with an orange flower and leaves with deeply serrated edges.
