circa 1870: Rain-in-the-Face (c.1835-1905). Hunkpapa Sioux warrior. Born near the Cheyenne River, north central South Dakota, fought against the encroaching whitemen from the 1860's along with Sitting Bull, Red Cloud and Crazy Horse. Captured in North Dakota by US Army, imprisoned, escaped, participated in the Battle of the Little Big Horn, Montana 1876, later surrendered and lived on the Sioux Reservation in South Dakota.
