The pharmacist, Mr Alan Wilson, is here preparing 5000 pituitary glands, enough to produce 1000 doses of Adrenocorticotrophic hormone, or ACTH. It is useful in diagnosing certain diseases and in treating multiple sclerosis. ACTH is produced in the anterior pituitary gland. It stimulates the adrenal cortex to manufacture natural corticosteroids, hormones known for their anti-inflammatory effects.
