Patty Berg Blasting Out of Sand Trap
(Original Caption) Patty Berg, of St. Andrews, Illinois, blasts out of the sand trap towards the 15th green, June 17, in second round matches at the Women's Western Open golf tournament. Defending Champion Betsy Rawls of Spartanburg, SC, matched with Miss Berg for the round, scored a hole-in-one, but lost, 2-up. Miss Rawls used a four iron to score her ace, on the par-three, 178-yard, 11th hole. It is believed to be the first ever scored by a professional in a major tournament.
