Waksman shown at work in his Rutgers University laboratory, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology tonight by the Council of the Caroline Institute of the University of Stockholm for his work in the discovery of Streptomycin.The prize, about $33,200 this year was awarded to the microbiologist for his work in dicovering the first effective Antibiotic for use against Tuberculosis.
