(Original Caption) Major General, John B, Medaris, Commander of the Redstone Arsenal at Huntsville, Alabama, is shown talking to Senator Lyndon Johnson, of Texas, Chairman of the Senate Preparedness Committee that is probing the US lag in missiles and satellites. General Medaris told the committee that missile development will be impeded because of the Defense Department's rejection of a plan for a high thrust rocket engine similar to that used by Russia to launch it's Sputniks. General Medaris declared, "One of the great roles in the ballistic missile program today is that there is no high thrust advance big rocket engine under development."
