Whirling Dervishes in training
BURSA, TURKEY - JUNE 19 : A junior whirling dervish turns on a salty wedge to prevent any nappy rash during their training session at Culture Centre Of Karabas-i Veli, in Bursa, Turkey on June 19, 2017. The 6-month long training of dervishes includes physical aspects as well as spiritual ones. The trainees perform pray before doing push-ups to make their bodies stronger and to calm their soul pray. Then their trainer let the trainees to kiss a wedge as they kneel down, later on they take salt and put it on a wedge. After that, a trainee stands next to a wooden board with barefoot, bowes on the knees and prostrates to kiss a wedge meaning 'thanks'. Then a trainee sprinkles a small amount of salt to prevent any nappy rash or wound, to a wedge. Following these steps, a trainee places his barefoot on a wedge and starts to turn.
