Germantown Eyedazzler Rug
Germantown Eyedazzler Rug, Arizona, circa 1800/90. In 1864 the U.S. government forcefully resettled the Navajo in the Bosque Redondo reservation. The brightly coloured commercial yarns they received as part of their government annuities prompted a cultural and artistic transformation in their weaving, with bold designs incorporating serrated diamonds, chevrons, zigzags and interlocking lines.
