Dr. William Beebe and Otis Barton in Bathysphere
(Original Caption) Dr. William Beebe, noted scientist, and his staff are conducting undersea explorations off Nonsuch Island, Bermuda, in a strongly built bathysphere. The bathysphere has withstood enormous weight pressure at a depth of 1,426 feet. However, at recent descent of 3,000 feet, the tremendous pressure caused the sphere to fill completely with water. Dr. Beebe is conduction his explorations for the New York Zoological Society's Tropical Research Expedition. The bathysphere was occupied by Dr. Beebe and Otis Barton during the descent.
