J. Edgar Hoover Testifying at Senate Sub-Committee
(Original Caption) FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, is shown before the Senate Internal Security Sub-Committee yesterday, as he swore that former President Truman's promotion of Harry Dexter White to the International Monetary Fund "hampered" FBI surveillance of the alleged Soviet spy because the fund's character was extra territorial and out of FBI jurisdiction. Hoover declared that he warned high administration officials that White was "unfit" for office, and that it would be "unwise" to keep him. The FBI Director stated, "at no time was the FBI a party to any agreement to promote Harry Dexter White, and at no time did the FBI give its' approval to such an agreement."
