Dictator of Cyprus Nikos Sampson (1935 - 2001), installed by the coup d'etat that overthrew President Makarios III (1913 - 1977, not in picture), during a press conference on 18th July 1974. Sampson was well known as a Greek nationalist and member of the National Organisation of Cypriot Fighters (EOKA), which sought Enosis (Union) of the island of Cyprus with Greece.
