MENDOCINO, CA – OCTOBER, 5, 2008– Dick Nachtsheim, left and Chris Ingram, rest on their float tubes while in the kelp–filled waters of Van Damme State Park searching for abalone, Oct. 5, 2008. Nachtsheim and Ingram, both Reno, Nv., firefighters, make an annual trip to the northern california coast with a group of co–workers, spending four days diving for abalone and camping with their families. The fire fighters have noticed the kelp being much heavier this year than in the past, making the diving harder and more dangerous and making finding the abalone harder. (Photo by Jay L.
