Stewart Landers...
Boston, MA - March 8: Stewart Landers poses for a portrait at his home. Landers has been working outside the limelight since the 1980s in Massachusetts developing once-cutting edge, now commonly-used, policies and services for major health issues, from HIV to obesity. Now, the widely-respected AIDS activist, who himself was diagnosed with HIV in 1985, when most died shortly after diagnosis, takes on a new public health battle. Landers has a rare cancer, Merkel cell carcinoma, which is becoming more common in the US and is much more lethal than melanoma. (Photo by Jessica Rinaldi/The Boston Globe via Getty Images)
