War Victims Recuperating in Hospital Beds
Bored men lie in bed at a hospital that has very little support staff and medicine, and must deal with a daily flood of war-wounded victims. In the 1980s civil war broke out when warlord factions joined together to overthrow then president Siad Barre, who finally lost power in 1991. Since then the civil war consists of power struggles between warlords, ravaging the country with famine and violence. US and international troops entered Somalia to provide aid as part of "Operation Restore Hope" in December of 1992. (Photo by Peter Turnley/Corbis/VCG via Getty Images)
