Hearing on Chinese Military Assistance
(Original Caption) Appearing before the House Military Affairs Committee hearing on a bill to provide military assistance to China, Dean Acheson (L), Acting Secretary of State, told the committee that the US plan to help arm and train Chinese troops would enable the Chinese government to maintain order in areas still being purged of Japanese. He indicated that the military bill was sought as a tool to aid Gen. Marshall in bringing about peace in China. Left to right: Acheson; Rep. Sol Bloom (D., NY), Chairman of the Committee; Secretary of War Robert P. Patterson; and Dewitt C. Ramsey, Vice Chief of Naval Operations.
