James Wadsworth Speaking
(Original Caption) U.S. Ambassador James J. Wadsworth (1905 - 1984) is shown talking at the U.N. Security Council meeting on the Egypt-Israeli crisis. He expressed the position of the Western Big Three, declaring the U.S. is opposed "to any policy of reprisal and retaliation." The council adjourned pending report of the U.N. Truce Chief General E.L.M. Burns, who has been conducting an on-the-spot inquiry. Today's session was called to discuss the border incident in Gaza Monday in which 47 Egyptian and Israeli soldiers were killed.
