United Nations Delegates Voting at Session
(Original Caption) U. S. Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, (R), interjects a point of order as Soviet delegate Arkady A. Sobolev addresses the UN Security Council in New York. Lodge asked the council for an immediate vote on the resolution he proposed on December 14th, suggesting that the Council should recommend that the General Assembly admit Japan--excluded from a package deal that brought sixteen new members into the world body--the following year. Sobolev countered with a resolution that the council should recommend the admission of both Japan and Outer Mongolia, touching of a long debate. In the center is the British delegate Sir Pierson Dixon.
