Urn Containing Antonio Canova’s Heart - 19th Century - stock illustration
Urn that contained Antonio Canova’s heart (circa 19th century). Vintage etching circa 19th century. Upon his death, Canova’s heart was removed placed in this urn and kept at Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. Five years later the heart would be moved to his monument at Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. Urn reads “ the heart of the great Canovaâ€, plaque reads “ that the monument of mutual love should be the same incentive to gloryâ€.
