Proposed bridge across the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, New York State - stock illustration
The Poughkeepsie railway bridge was completed in 1889, after this book was published. Here is a proposal for the design of the bridge, which was to be have two levels, the upper level being for rail traffic and the lower for foot and horsedrawn traffic. It burned down in 1974 and has since been reopened as the Walkway Over The Hudson. Poughkeepsie is in New York State and beside the Hudson River.
