Plumes on Enceladus, illustration - stock illustration
Illustration of Saturn seen from above the surface of its small icy satellite Enceladus. Only 504 kilometres across, Enceladus is a comparatively small ice moon. Recently, geyser-like jets of material have been seen spouting from cracks in the satellite's south polar region. They contain water vapour, molecular hydrogen and other molecules, as well as solid chucks of ice. Several other satellites are visible. From left to right they are Mimas (on the rings), Tethys, Dione, Rhea and Titan. This is a virtual-reality illustration, designed for viewing in a VR headset or for projection onto a dome.
