Historical view of Locarno - a municipality in the district of Locarno and the capital of the district of Locarno in the Swiss canton of Ticino. It is located on the left shore of Lake Maggiore. In the 1870s, when transport links to both the north and the south improved, the Locarno region began to develop as a hotel and tourism industry, which to this day forms the economic backbone of the city. Wood engraving after a drawing by Edward Theodore Compton (English painter, 1849 - 1921), published in 1877.
